The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling to hold the inaugural edition of Women’s Indian Premier League from next year. Amidst its planning, the board is pondering to host it as a five-team tournament.

With the tentative window of March 2023, the Indian board is also in discussion to conduct the tournament across two venues. As reported by Cricbuzz, BCCI is also pondering to include five overseas players in the XI, with four being from ICC Full Member nations while one being from an associate nation.

If reports are to believed  the board is eyeing to host 20 league matches where teams can face each other twice in league stage. The team finishing at the top of the table is set to directly qualify for the finals and second & third place teams to play an Eliminator.

The BCCI is also under discussion between the options of selling the IPL teams either zone wise or city-wise like in Men’s IPL (Ahmedabad, Delhi, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Punjab, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Chennai & Kolkata).

A final decision on all these above moves is  set to be taken once the board members next meet along with the IPL Chairperson is Arun Dhumal.
