The former Indian cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu, hinted that Virat Kohli might play in the ODI World Cup 2027 while talking about his supreme fitness on Star Sports. The 60-year-old, who made his return to cricket commentary in years, said that the former Indian captain is not only fit enough to play cricket for two years but four years.

In the last decade before making his way into cricket commentary for Star Sports during the IPL 2024, Navjot Singh Sidhu was an active politician and a TV show guest. He also got released from Patiala jail in April 2023, following a 10-month imprisonment, after the Supreme Court convicted him for voluntarily causing hurt as per section 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in a road rage homicide case.

Known for his wit and humour, Navjot Singh Sidhu has made an instant impact on the Star Sports telecast of the IPL 2024, talking about Virat Kohli in this instance. He detailed the value that the former Indian captain brings to any team, and said, “Virat Kohli standing on the field is a huge plus. It’s like (Sachin) Tendulkar missing from the team when we played. Dusri team pehle hi havi ho jaati thi (The other team used to dominate from the beginning).”

Navjot Singh Sidhu went on to heap praises on Virat Kohli, 35, for his supreme fitness and remarked, “He (Virat Kohli) is fitter than the fittest. Usko aisaa lagta hi nahi hai ki wo teen run bhaag kar aaya hai, saans phoolti hi nahi hai (He doesn’t even feel that he ran for three runs, he never goes out of breath).”

He detailed the impactful innings from Virat Kohli for RCB against PBKS in the IPL 2024, applauding him for walking down the track with ease against the fast bowlers, calling it a prime example of his high fitness levels. In his closing remarks, the former Indian cricketer said, “Main kehta hu aur danke ki chot par kehta hu, wo do saal ke liye nahi chaar saal ke liye fit hai (I can say with surety that he (Virat Kohli) is not fit for two years but four years).

Only time will tell whether or not Virat Kohli will continue playing cricket at the highest level in four years. Although, as Najvot Singh Sidhu stated, the fitness, coupled with the insatiable hunger for the sport could pull the 35-year-old through to greater highs in the twilight years of his career.
