The 132nd season of the Argentine Primera División, which is also called the Liga Profesional, is being played from June to October 2022, before the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. River Plate, Boca Juniors, Independiente, Racing and San Lorenzo are considered as the 'Big Five' clubs in the Argentinian football.
River Plate are the defending champions of the Liga Profesional this season and also most successful club in the league's history with 37 titles since the first championship held in 1891. Los Millonarios are followed by Boca Juniors (34), Racing (18), Independiente (16), and San Lorenzo (15).
The five best placed clubs in Primera División points table automatically qualify for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, the highest level of competition in South American club football while the sixth team qualify to the second stage.
