In a recent development, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been charged with as many as three offences- attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm," the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, Janet Potter, was quoted as saying by The Mirror.

While the alleged rape is reportedly said to have occurred on October 22, 2021, the assault for which Greenwood has been charged dates back to December last year. In addition, the charge of controlling and coercive behaviour relates to a period of time since November 2018. Moreover, all three charges are related to the same complainant.

Notably, Greenwood was first arrested in January over these allegations after images and videos had gone viral. While he has been out of jail since the, the youngster was immediately suspended from the Premier League giants and consequently has not featured in any Red Devils' game.
