West Indies produced a clinical all-round performance in the series opener in Antigua. After choosing to bowl first, all the Windies bowlers were among the wickets as they restricted Sri Lanka to a modest total of 131. Obed McCoy was most impressive with the ball, with figures of 2/25. The batting was a slight concern for the hosts as Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran were dismissed on duck. Skipper Kieron Pollard (38 off 11) stole the show as he smashed Dananjaya for six sixes in an over, Jason Holder (29* off 24) played a solid knock to guide West Indies to a comfortable 4-wicket win in the end.
Sri Lanka came up with a really disappointing performance in the first contest. Though, Niroshan Dickwella (33 off 29) and Pathum Nissanka (39 off 34) did play well, but the experience trio of Dinesh Chandimal (11), Angelo Mathews (5) and Thisara Perera (1) had a dismal outing. In the bowling department, Wanindu Hasaranga was the most impressive bowler for them, finishing with 3/12 in his 4 overs. Akila Dananjaya did take an incredible hat-trick, he conceded 64 runs as Windies chased the target in the 14th over. The visitors will certainly want to play more competitive cricket when they meet West Indies for the second T20I.
