The Mumbai Indians have been the most successful franchise in the history of the league. They have managed to win six IPL titles in the last nine years while making the playoffs nine times. But before the 2022 IPL season, the MI Paltan has made a few crucial decisions.
Mumbai Indians decided to release their star duo of Hardik and Krunal Pandya along with Rahul Chahar who have been the nucleus of their championship-winning teams. So they had to build a completely new roster from scratch.
All eyes were on the MI table during the Mega IPL auction as they have picked some strange and unknown players and built a complete wild card team. But for Mumbai, expectations every season are to win the championship. So now let us look at the three players who could struggle in IPL 2022.
Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis was one of the most touted young players coming into the 2022 Auction. Fresh from the U-19 World Cup fame, Brevis was the leading run-getter of the tournament. But he could struggle in Mumbai because of his sheer lack of experience in handling pressure and expectations. Brevis could end up as Richard Levi, another South African who blasted on the scene but failed at MI.
Murugan Ashwin

Murugan Ashwin has been a mainstay in the IPL for the last few seasons with slow leg spinners. He made his debut under MS Dhoni where he took seven wickets but was expensive as with an economy of around eight runs. This trend has continued throughout his career and hence could struggle at MI. With the IPL being played in the smaller grounds of Mumbai and Pune, Ashwin could go for a lot of runs without taking wickets.
Tim David

Tim David was one of the most surprising picks made by the Mumbai Indians. He is a Singapore-born player and has played T20 cricket in leagues across the globe. But with Kieron Pollard ageing, David would be the main finisher for the Paltan. David has an incredible strike rate of 158.52 in T20 cricket but playing against the best bowlers in the world night in and night out, could be difficult.
