With the series done and dusted, India Women lock horns with South Africa Women for one last time in this grueling ODI series. While Mithali Raj’s side will play for pride, the Proteas will look to continue their winning run and take this momentum to the T20I series.
Although the visitors lead the series 3-1, it doesn’t reflect how closely-competitive this series has been. The hosts have batted well in their last two defeats and have put up a 245+ score on both occasions. However, it is their bowling that has let them down as Laura Wolvaardt’s side hunted down the target in two mouth-watering contests.
Lizelle Lee has been the stand-out performer in the series so far, having scored 288 runs in 4 matches. She has led South Africa’s charge at top of the order and her recent performances have also powered to top of ICC rankings for batswomen in ODIs. Although India have lost the series, the Women in Blue would be delighted with Punam Raut who has registered 253 runs in this series.
Both the sides will be hoping for a better bowling performance though. Some of the experienced players like Poonam Yadav (o wicket in 4 matches), Ayabonga Khaka (1 wicket in 4 matches), Deepti Sharma (1 wicket in 4 matches) have had a tough time in Lucknow. They will be hoping to get back some form going ahead to the T20I series. In spite of being a dead rubber, there is a lot to look forward to in this contest on Wednesday.
