There have been a lot of controversies and speculations going on in the Indian cricket for the past week. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Rohit Sharma as the new Team India ODI captain on December 8. This led to a week full of turmoil wherein the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli gave contradicting statements.

Just before leaving for South Africa tour, Virat Kohli addressed the media via a virtual press conference on Wednesday. Earlier, Ganguly had revealed that he had ‘requested’ Kohli to not quit T20I captaincy. However, Kohli denied Ganguly’s claims, saying that he was informed about the captaincy change only 90 minutes prior to the selection meeting last week for the South Africa tour.

“I was contacted one-and-a-half hours before selection for Tests. The chief selector discussed with me the Test squad. Before the call ended, I was told that the five selectors have decided that I won’t be ODI captain anymore. There was no prior communication about this,” Kohli said in the press conference.

The restaurant is on him: Pragyan Ojha

Now, former India bowler Pragyan Ojha has taken a sly dig at Virat Kohli for blatantly speaking out the ‘facts’ before the press. The former left-arm spinner took to Twitter to share his thoughts in reference to the ongoing white-ball captaincy controversy. Ojha went on to create a hypothetical situation to describe his thoughts. He referred to Virat as the chef who had the responsibility of the reputation of an entire restaurant.

What can be ascertained from the tweet is that Pragyan Ojha might be of the opinion that Virat shouldn’t have disclosed this crucial information during the virtual press conference. This situation could have been better handled by the experienced cricketer. Ojha also termed the controversy surrounding India’s white-ball captaincy as “unnecessary”.

Meanwhile, team India have departed for the South Africa tour which will start on 26th December. Both the teams are to play three Tests and three ODIs. The four T20I games have been postponed to a later date due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
