India finished at the 4th position in the medal tally in the 2022 Commonwealth Games by winning 22 Gold medals (61 medals in total - 16 Silver & 23 Bronze medals). Out of 22 Gold medals, 6 came in Wrestling, 4 in table tennis, 3 in Weightlifting, Boxing, and Badminton each and 1 each in Athletics, Lawn bowls and Para powerlifting. Here in this article, we will have a look at how India has fared in the CWG events from 1998 to 2018 and have a look at India's performance in Birmingham compared to these previous events.

India in 1998 CWG:
India finished at 7th position in medals tally by winning 7 Gold medals (25 medals in total - 10 Silver & 8 Bronze medals). Out of 7 Gold medals, 4 of them came in Shooting and 3 of them came in Weightlifting sport. Notably, this was the first CWG event to happen in an Asian country.

India in 2002 CWG:
India performed very well in the 2002 CWG event by winning 30 Gold medals (69 medals in total - 22 Silver & 17 Bronze medals) and ended up at 4th position in the medal table. Out of 30 Gold medals, 14 of them were won in Shooting sport, 11 in Weightlifting sport, 3 in Wrestling sport and 1 of them in Boxing and Hockey sport respectively.

India in 2006 CWG:
India won 22 Gold medals (50 medals in total - 17 Silver & 11 Bronze medals) in CWG 2006 and ended up at 4th position in the medal table overall. CWG event happened in Australia for the 4th time in 2006, having earlier hosted the Games in 1938, 1962 & 1982. Out of 22 Gold medals, 16 of them came in Shooting, 3 in Weightlifting, 2 in Table Tennis and 1 in Boxing.

India in 2010 CWG:
India recorded their best ever performance in CWG 2010 by winning 38 Gold medals (101 medals in total - 27 Silver & 36 Bronze medals) and ended up at 2nd position in medal table during that year. This is the only instance of India winning more than 100 medals in a Commonwealth Games event. For the first time, CWG event was hosted in India. Out of 38 Gold medals, 14 came in Shooting, 10 came in Wrestling, 3 came in Archery, 3 came in Boxing, 2 came in Athletics, 2 came in Weightlifting, 2 came in Badminton,1 in Table Tennis and 1 in Tennis respectively.

India in 2014 CWG:
India in 2014 CWG managed to win just 15 Gold medals (64 medals in total - 30 Silver & 19 Bronze medals) and ended up at 5th position in the medals tally during that year. CWG was hosted in Scotland for 3rd time after 1970 & 1986. Out of 15 Gold medals, 5 came in Wrestling, 4 came in Shooting, 3 in Weightlifting, and 1 in Badminton, Athletics and Squash respectively.

India in 2018 CWG:
India in 2018 CWG won 26 Gold medals (66 medals in total - 20 Silver & 20 Bronze medals) and ended up at 3rd position in the medal table during that year. CWG was hosted in Australia for the 5th time. Out of 26 Gold medals, 7 came in Shooting, 5 in Wrestling, 5 in Weightlifting, 3 in Boxing, 3 in Table Tennis, 2 in Badminton and 1 in Athletics sport.

India in 2022 CWG:
India in 2022 managed to win 61 medals this year. This included 22 Gold medals. 6 of these came in Wrestling, 4 in table tennis, 3 in Weightlifting, Boxing, and Badminton each and 1 each in Athletics, Lawn bowls and Para powerlifting. India finished fourth in Birmingham.
