New month! New venue! But same old luck for SRH! Not much has changed for the Orange Army over the course of last four months as they produced another lackluster performance in their first match of UAE leg of IPL 2021. With teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals resuming their campaign on positive note, there were high hopes from Kane Williamson's side to come up with an impressive performance.
It all started well for SRH as they won the toss and opted to bat first. However, that was the last good thing that happened with them on the day. The pace bowling duo of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada wreaked havoc with the new ball as the Orange Army had no answers to them. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and could only manage to post a total of 134/9 in 20 overs.
DC batsmen ensure comprehensive win for their side
As Kane Williamson's side came out to defend the target, there was still an outside chance of them paving their way back into the match with few quick wickets. Unfortunately, they could only scalp two overall as the brilliant knocks of Shreyas Iyer (47* off 41), Shikhar Dhawan (42 off 37) and Rishabh Pant (35* off 21) took Delhi over the line in 17.5 overs only.
Just like the performance in Dubai, the points table also had a very contrasting look for both sides. While DC went to top of the table with their 7th win in 9 matches, SRH remained at the rock bottom as they suffered their 7th loss in 8 matches.
As expected, the netizens did not miss the opportunity to troll a team who had another dismal show this season. While some fans hilariously asked them to quit midway through the tournament, the others thanked them for gifting two points to each franchise.
