Aditi Ashok has become a nationwide sensation over the last few years. As fans were celebrating India's achievements in hockey and wrestling at the ongoing Olympic games in the last few days, one more name has silently gone about its job and put India on the verge of a rare medal in golf and that name is Aditi Ashok, who had become the first female golfer to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 games. Her participation at the Olympics was confirmed as per her rankings.
While the top 60 golfers qualify for the Olympics as per their rankings and qualification criteria, Ashok was ranked 45th when she secured a ticket to Tokyo 2020. Moreover, she carded a three-under 67 in the third round on Friday to hold on to her second position and remain in contention for India's maiden Olympic medal in the sport. Irrespective of the final result, this is set to be a landmark finish and a great achievement for Aditi, considering she had finished 41st at her maiden appearance at the Olympics in 2016.
Aditi was 12-under 201 after three rounds and happens to be the only golfer in the second position, three strokes adrift of the current leader Nelly Korda of the USA who in turn had carded a two-under 69 in the penultimate round.
Meanwhile, the other Indian golfer in contention, Diksha Dagar, remained in the lower half of the board post a one-over 72, her third consecutive over-par card of the week.
