British racing team Williams has confirmed the contract extension of Thai driver Alex Albon on a multi-year deal. Albon joined Williams this season as he replaced George Russell after Red Bull released him from his contract, where he was the reserve driver.

The Thai driver has put up some great performances this season as he has scored all the team’s points this season with a 10th place finish in Australia and ninth in Miami. While announcing his contract extension, Albon took to Twitter and put forth a sly tweet as he took a dig at the Oscar Piastri and Alpine team controversy, where the French team announced that Piastri will be their driver for next season.

But the young Australian denied these claims and addressed that Alpine have included his name in the press release without an agreement. Albon here followed, the exact same template of words to announce his extension.

He tweeted, “I understand that, with my agreement, Williams Racing has put out a press release this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is right and I have signed a contract with Williams for 2023. I will be driving for Williams next year.”

Williams racing Team Principal Jost Capito also expressed excitement about working with Alex Albon over the foreseeable future. He praised the Thai driver for his “great blend of skill and insightful learnings” and expressed that with Albon’s seat secured for the long term, Williams could continue their development with a stable base.

Capito said, “Alex is a tremendous driver and valued member of Williams Racing, so we’re thrilled to be able to confirm we will be working with him on a long-term basis. Alex brings a great blend of skill and insightful learnings that will help bring the team greater success in the future. He’s a fierce competitor, has proved a popular and loyal team member and we are delighted that he will provide a stable base for us to continue to develop in this new F1 car era.”

Alex Albon is currently 19th in the driver’s championship with three points. In the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, he finished 17th over Nicholas Latifi, Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas.
