153:Alisson, Fabinho and 6 other Brazilian footballers set to miss this weekend's Premier League fixtures due to controversial 'five-day rule'

In a dramatic sequence of events in world of football, it is being reported that as many as 8 Brazilian players might be forced to miss this weekend's Premier League fixtures due to bizarre circumstances. To give context, many PL clubs had unanimously decided to prevent their players from leaving for international duties if the teams were required to travel red-list countries. The move was taken to save their players from serving an additional 10-day quarantine period on their arrival to the UK.

However, the Brazilian FA was not happy with the clubs and tension was growing between the respective parties. And now, the matter has been escalated to a whole new level with reports circulating that the Brazilian FA have decided to impose 'five-day rule', which states that, "Players who are not released for international duty can, in accordance with FIFA, be banned from featuring for their clubs for a five-day period following the conclusion of international fixtures."

Who are the players set to miss out?

The rule was put in place to protect the international teams from unnecessary and club-influenced withdrawals of their players for their own interest. As Brazilian FA were extremely angry with the fact that they did not have their star players at disposal for recent round of World Cup Qualifiers, 8 big names are set to be unavailable for their respective teams from September 10-14.

While Liverpool will be the most affected team with the trio of Alisson, Fabinho and Firmino missing out on their trip to Leeds, Manchester City might have to travel to Leicester without Ederson and Jesus. Meanwhile, Chelsea's Thiago Silva and Man Utd's Fred will also be ruled out of upcoming week's UCL fixtures as it also falls in the five-day period. Interestingly, Everton's Richarlison might be allowed to play due to Toffees' strong relationship with Brazilian FA.

The list of Brazilian players who are expected to be unavailable for their respective teams this week are as follows:

Few other players could also be unavailable

Apart from Brazilian FA, it has been reported that national bodies of Chile, Mexico and Paraguay have also informed FIFA about their willingness to impose 'five-day rule' on their players. This would rule out four more players for this weekend's Premier League matches which includes Raul Jimenez (Wolves), Francisco Sierralta (Watford) and Miguel Almiron (Newcastle).

It will be extremely interesting to see how the Premier League responds to this ongoing situation with so many clubs set to get impacted due to absence of some of their top players.
