The Australia Women’s Cricket team is all set to take on England in a series comprising of 3 T20Is and as many ODIs to go with a one-off Test match. For the same, the Australian team have added uncapped cricketer Alana King to their squad who has replaced Amanda Jade Wellington. In addition, it is being learnt that Georgia Wareham and Sophie Molineux will not be part of the Australian side for the women’s Ashes.

National selector of the Australian team Shawn Fledger said that the injury to Wareham will be a big opportunity for Alana King to show her potential and readiness at this level. Fledger’s statement added that King has grown as a player and improved the various nuances of her game and could play an instrumental role in the forthcoming England series.

Great opportunity for Alana King: Shawn Fledger

“The loss of Georgia Wareham to injury has presented Alana King with a great opportunity to show what she can do at this level and having improved in all facets of her game over the last few seasons, she’s well placed to play an important role in the series,” Fledger was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Meanwhile, it was clarified that Sophie Molineux wasn’t available for selection as she sustained a stress fracture in her foot. Fledger suggested that the Australian management will continue to monitor the progress of the left-arm spinner and aid in her speedy recovery so that he is fit for the World Cup.

“As expected, Sophie Molineux will miss this series due to the stress fracture in her right foot that she suffered at the back end of the WBBL, but we’ll continue to monitor her in the lead up to the World Cup with the aim that’s she’s available for that tournament,” Fledger concluded.
