While fans had already started anticipating Sachin Tendulkar facing Shoiab Akhtar in the competition following the advertisement that went on air a few days ago, the clarification came from the former India cricketer’s Management company.
“The news about @sachin_rt’s participation in ‘Legends League Cricket’ is not true. The organisers should refrain from misleading cricket fans and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan,” official spokesperson of SRT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd stated.
Here is the updated India Maharajas squad as it stands:
Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, S. Badrinath, RP Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Naman Ojha, Manpreet Gony, Hemang Badani, Venugopal Rao, Munaf Patel, Sanjay Bangar, Nayan Mongia, Amit Bhandari, Mohammad Kaif and Stuart Binny.
Harbhajan’s name was being linked with the tournament from quite some time even before he had announced his retirement from Indian cricket. That had already fuelled speculations that he might retire soon to feature in this tournament. As it turned out, Bhajji indeed hung up his boots and will be seen in this T20 tournament which is meant exclusively for ex-international cricketers.
In addition, it is also being reported that Harbhajan may take a mentorship role with the Kolkata Knight Riders- a franchise with which he was associated as a player in IPL 2021. He played a handful of matches in the first half but was benched for the entire second half in UAE and was already seen mentoring spinners and youngsters in the KKR dugout.
