Ashes

The historic Ashes rivalry is all set to resume this December. England will travel to Australia this time and will have to take inspiration from India's performance against the Aussies Down Under in 2020-21 where they handed the Kangaroos a series defeat. England's Jos Buttler has already made it clear that he is going to take inspiration from the way Rishabh Pant played against the Aussies in the Tests and replicate the same in the five-match Test series in December and January.

History of Ashes:

"In affectionate remembrance of English cricket which died at The Oval, 29th August 1882. Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances, RIP. NB The body will be cremated and the Ashes taken to Australia."

The mock obituary from journalist Reginald Shirley Brooks on the back of Australia's first win on English soil.

Australia's first victory on English soil over the full strength of England, on August 29, 1882, inspired a young London journalist, Reginald Shirley Brooks, to write this mock "obituary''.

England lost by seven runs and the sows of the Ashes had been sowed.

It is popularly believed that the real Ashes was in fact a small urn supposedly containing the ashes of a bail used in the third match and while there is enough evidence to suggest otherwise, let's for once believe in the popular myth.

Australia are the current holders of the Ashes having last completed a series win in 2017 and now in 2021-22, they would want to repeat a similar result given that the series is happening in their own backyard.

The five Tests will be played across five cities in Australia – Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Although it is usually Sydney that hosts the fifth and the final Test, this time around it is going to be Perth which will host the final Test of the series. Cricket Australia also confirmed that the dates of the fixtures have been locked despite border restrictions in Australia due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
