Australia have announced their playing eleven for the first Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Newly-appointed Test skipper Pat Cummins revealed the Australia playing XI on Sunday for the upcoming first Test. Notably, wicketkeeper Tim Paine had stepped down as Australia skipper after a sexting scandal and the board had appointed Pat Cummins and Steve Smith as captain and vice-captain respectively.

The announcement came at the official launch of the Test series, as players huddled around the crystal replica trophy. Meanwhile, England skipper Joe Root chose not to disclose his side's playing XI three days ahead of the game.

Travis Head has been listed at number five in the Australian team while speedster Mitchell Starc has also found a place. Openers David Warner and Marcus Harris will be followed by Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. The lower middle-order consists of all-rounder Cameron Green and wicket-keeper Alex Carey.

The Ashes 2021 will begin from 8 December 2021 at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Australia XI: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood

Lead Australia like you want to: Gillespie's advice for Cummins

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie has stated that Pat Cummins should look to lead the team in his own way and not focus on the outside noise. "My advice to Pat Cummins would be to 'be yourself and be your own man'. Do it how you want to do it. Lead the side how you want to lead the side. That is the only advice I can give him, he has got to do the job in his own way. I am sure he will be fine," he stated.
