Aston Martin retain Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll for F1 2022 season

On being announced as the pairing for next year, Lance Stroll expressed his excitement to drive alongside Vettel in what will be former's 6th year in Formula One.

With the excitement already building around the next season of Formula One, many teams have announced their driver line-ups for 2022 in last month. George Russell's move to Mercedes opened the drivers' market completely with Valtteri Bottas going to Alfa Romeo and Alex Albon joining Williams. Amid all this, there were still doubts over the seats of Aston Martin for next year.

Sebastian Vettel has had a mixed season so far with his new team, with 35 points and 1 podium finish to his name. However, the 4-time world champion finds himself in a car battling for midfield positions something he must not be enjoying. There were speculations that the German was pondering over the decision to continue in the sport or not. But much to the delight of all motorsport fans, all the rumours were put to rest on Thursday.

Vettel and Stroll to continue in Aston Martin

Aston Martin confirmed that they have decided to retain the services of Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel for the Formula One 2022 season. "Both Lance and Sebastian have become an integral part of the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team. We look forward to the new era of Formula One, lead by our two drivers," the team stated in an official statement on website.

The two drivers of Aston Martin did collide with each other in the Italian GP 2021 when Stroll pushed aside Vettel, resulting in the German losing few places. However, it was a racing incident and there is no love lost between the two. On being announced as the pairing for next year as well, Lance Stroll expressed his excitement to drive alongside Vettel in what will be former's 6th year in Formula One.

Stroll added, "We have not achieved what we set out to do this year, but that has only amplified our hunger and drive for success next season. Now, with the prestige and support of Aston Martin, and the brilliant new sponsor-partners that such a prestigious brand has attracted, we are well positioned to improve our performance in 2022.”

Formula One will be going through a revolutionary change next year, with so many new regulations coming in place. It will be a new territory for all the teams and there will be lot of unpredictability amid the change. Vettel is certainly excited about it as he said that he is really looking forward to racing the new generation of Formula One cars.

Reflecting on the same, Vettel said, "Their look is very different and the new technical regulations should give us cars that can race much more closely than recently. More exciting racing will be great for the drivers as well as for the fans. The changes are so big that every team will be starting from a new beginning, so it will be a great opportunity for us at Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team. I believe in the strength of our new growing team, so I am already looking forward to 2022."

Although Aston Martin have not had a brilliant season this year, there is certainly no doubt that this perfect line-up with a mix of youth and experience could prove to be crucial for them going into the ever-exciting 2022 season.
