What a game of cricket it was between two teams who are at the top of the table in IPL 2021. Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings produced an edge-of-the-seat thriller that went up and down and eventually it was the Delhi Capitals who sealed a 3-wicket win with 2 balls to spare. However, there were certain decisions made even by the winning team which raised quite a few eyebrows and the biggest among them was Ravichandran Ashwin coming in to bat ahead of Shimron Hetmyer.

While Ashwin had finished off the match against Mumbai Indians with a six, it is Hetmyer who is the recognized batter in the side and despite having him in the team, the management thought it was best for Ashwin to go ahead of Hetmyer. However, the decision did not quite work out as Ashwin managed just 2 off 3 balls and later it was Hetmyer who did the job for his team.

After the match, Ashwin interviewed the Caribbean star Hetmyer and asked him about his feelings when it was the veteran spinner walking in ahead of him.

“At first I was pissed, honestly. But then I was like it was basically for the team. And I said whatever the team wants, whatever the team is, whatever the team requires at that time, I will just do as it is,” he replied in response to Ashwin’s query.

He later expressed his surprise at Ashwin nudging it around for his first few balls and said that he thought maybe Ash was giving himself a chance by settling in.

A glimpse of the interview has been shared on the IPLT20’s official social media handle. The complete video can be watched on their official website.

Later, DC captain Rishabh Pant said at the post-match press conference that they were looking to have a left-hand- right-hand combination in the middle which was the reason behind Ashwin’s promotion. As a result of the win, Delhi have gone on top of the table with 20 points while CSK are now at the second position with 18 points.
