India's fifth Test against England at Old Trafford has been cancelled after a number of the Indian backroom staff tested positive for Covid-19. India were unable to field a team as they feared spreading of further cases through their squad. The ECB statement initially said that India, who led the series 2-1, had forfeited the final Test and the series was drawn 2-2. But the statement was soon amended to, "India are regrettably unable to field a team." However, the final result is unclear.

After ECB's announcement was made, Twitterati found something to cheer about as they trolled Team India batsman Ajinkya Rahane for his poor form in the 5-match Test series. The biggest reason of worry throughout the Test series was the form of Rahane, who managed just 109 runs in the four Tests at an average of 15.57. His scores in the series read 5, 1, 61, 18, 10, 14 and 0.

His place in the playing XI came under heavy scrutiny after he went through a lean patch of form. Rahane was unarguably the most out-of-form Indian batsman on the England tour and according to reports, the Mumbai batsman was expected to be dropped to the bench in the 5th Test against England.

A fan tweeted, "At least let us know if Rahane would've played or not" while another jokingly wrote, "Ajinkya Rahane ending this tour as unbeatan in last test, never doubted his form." One fan wrote, "Universe playing 4D chess for Rahane to spare him the humiliation of being droppe-er, “rested.
