Indian Super League club ATK Mohun Bagan announced the big signing of Finland’s Joni Kauko on Thursday immediately after Finland’s Euro 2020 game came to an end. Although Finland couldn't proceed to the knockout stage of the competition, it was Kauko, who had done just about enough to impress the Indian club.

The club confirmed the deal on social media. Taking to Twitter, ATK Mohun Bagan wrote, “#ATKMohunBagan is delighted to announce the signing of current Finnish midfielder,

@JoniKauko - who joins the #Mariners on a two-year deal! ?❤️,” also attaching a short video.

The forthcoming eighth season of the Indian Super League is likely to be held from November to March and all the clubs are currently looking to add reinforcements in the transfer window, with ATK Mohun Bagan making this first big deal official.

Two time Finnish League Cup winner

Talking about Kauko, the 30-year-old was born in Turku on July 12, 1990, and has captained the Finland U-21 team in the past. Moreover, he is a two-time Finnish League cup winner, clinching the title one time each with Inter Turku and FC Lahti. Kauko also went on to win the Finnish Cup championship in 2009 with Inter Turku.

Moreover, the midfielder made his international debut for Finland in 2012. As of now, he has 28 international appearances. In Finland’s Euro 2020 campaign, Kauko played 57 minutes of football, coming on as a substitute in the second half in matches against Belgium, Denmark and Russia.
