The Day 4 of Australian Open 2022 witnessed some incredible action in Melbourne. While most of the big names progressed through to third round, there were also some big upsets which happened across both men’s and women’s singles categories.

It was also a great day for Indian fans as Sania Mirza, along with her partner Rajeev Ram, clinched a superb 6-3, 7-6 win over the Serbian pair of Aleksandra Krunic and Nikola Cacic in first round of mixed doubles’ event. 

Men’s Singles

One of the biggest matches of the day was Daniil Medvedev vs Nick Kyrgios and the crowd was treated with some scintillating action. Home boy Kyrgios produced an exhibition but in the end, Medvedev (2nd seeded) was just too good as he registered a brilliant victory in a 4-set thriller. While Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov (26th seeded) bowed out of the tournament, Stefanos Tsitsipas (4th seeded), Diego Schwartzman (13th seeded) and Andrey Rublev (5th seeded) advanced to third round.

Women’s Singles

It was a day of setbacks in women’s singles category as many big names – Garbine Muguruza (3rd seeded), Anett Kontaveit (6th seeded), Elena Rybakina (12th seeded) and US Open 2021 champions Emma Raducanu (17th seeded) – suffered defeats in second round and got knocked out of the ongoing Grand Slam. However, Aryna Sabalenka (2nd seeded) and Iga Świątek (7th seeded) lived up to the expectations and progressed to next round.
