Day 5 of Australian Open 2022 witnessed some incredible action in Melbourne and most of the big names booked their spots in the next round. There were a few scintillating games across all categories (men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles, women's doubles, mixed doubles) and just like the first four days, some top-seeded players were once again knocked out in a shocking manner.
Men's Event
In the men's category, star players like Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and Gael Monfils registered impressive victories to progress to 4th round. However, the match of the day was played between Matteo Berrettini and Carlos Garfia where the former somehow managed to clinch the 5-set thriller to advance ahead. In the doubles, the Australian pair of Kokkinakis and Kyrgios upset the 1st seeded duo of Mektic and Pavic, a result which certainly delighted the home crowd.

Women's Event
Ashleigh Barty continued her fiery form as she progressed further with another straight-set win on Friday. Maria Sakkari, Barbora Krejcikova and Paula Badosa were also impressive during their victories in the third round. However, the biggest result of the day was the elimination of defending champion Naomi Osaka who lost out to Amanda Anisimova in a crazy 3-set contest. Meanwhile, the 4th seeded pairing of Zhang and Stosur also crashed out of the tournament.
