India has announced a 327-member Indian squad including 220 athletes and 107 officials and support staff for the Commonwealth Games 2022 that will take place in Birmingham, United Kingdom from July 28 to August 8. Indian badminton team is set to feature a 10-member combined team consisting of five men and five women shuttlers for the multi-sports event.

The CWG 2022 will also mark the return of cricket to Birmingham after the 1998 CWG games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Birmingham 2022 will feature a women’s T20 cricket tournament unlike 50-over men’s cricket in 1998.

In the 2018 CWG at Gold Coast in Australia, Team India won a total of 66 medals with 26 gold medals. India finished third in the CWG 2018, which was the country’s best position since the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Preview:

India has a balanced squad in badminton with the likes of the world number seven, PV Sindhu and world number 10 Lakshya Sen to lead the side. The Indian team is expected to improve their medal count at the CWG 2022 after having a glorious outing in 2018 Gold Coast CWG. However, former world No. 1 Saina Nehwal will not feature in the Indian side as she failed to meet the qualification criteria.
