The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has put forward the names of the players for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and the Arjuna Award. The board has nominated Kidambi Srikanth and Olympic bound shuttler B Sai Praneeth for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, with three more names for Arjuna Award.

Along with two nominations for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, BAI has proposed three shuttlers' names for the Arjuna Award.

Reportedly, a source within BAI revealed the names it has recommended to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. It said, “This time we have given two names (Kidambi Srikanth and Sai Praneeth) for the Khel Ratna Award and for the Arjuna Award, BAI has put forward the names of HS Pronoy, Pranav Jerry Chopra, and Sameer Verma”.

Sai Praneeth, who won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championship, is the only men's single shuttler to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics 2021.

The federation has also sent the names of S Muralidharan, who is a recipient of Dronacharya Life Time Achievement Award,  and PU Bhaskar Babu for the Dronacharya Award.
