Bangladesh elected to bat after winning the toss but they lost two important early wickets under 50 runs. Tamim and Rahim took some pressure off after a 50-run partnership but soon opener Tamim fell by an LBW appeal off De Silva. Mithun was also sent back on the very next ball by Silva for a duck. However, After Rahim's score of 84 and Mahmudullah contribution of 54, helped Bangladesh put on a respectable target of 260.

When Sri Lanka started the chase, they looked confident but lost 2 wickets under 10 overs. Skipper Kusal Perera try to put some fight with his cautious batting, but Hasan Miraz got the better of him and dismissed him for a score of 30. In under 30 overs, Mehidy had 4 wickets under his belt. Hasaranga displayed some courage in the middle overs with a score of 74 at a strike rate of 123.33; Udana was also hanging around to assist him. Still, Saifuddin and Mustafizur spoilt their effort and removed them before the end of 45th over. The tailenders try to move the scoreboard a little bit yet failed to take their team home. In the end, Sri Lanka lost by 33 runs against Bangladesh.

Tamim Iqbal: "Looks a good wicket, batting first, need to keep the heat in concern as well. We are going with three seamers and two seamers. Any series' first game is very important, first ten overs important, need to set the tone and see where we are at. We've been playing some cricket last 3-4 months, training hard, need to put on a show. The situation is not ideal in the bubble and away from family, but passion of playing for country...can't get bigger than that. Need to play for fans, keep believing in ourselves and put on a better show. Recent results are not in our way, but we hope to change that."

Kusal Perera: "Honoured to captain Sri Lanka. It's a very good batting track, happy to chase. We would've bowled first anyway, we are playing an extra batters. Lot of young players this game, also seniors are not in the squad. Seniors want to give them chance to play internationals, hope the youngsters do well."

11: 37 AM: Sri Lanka are currently going through a transition phase in white-ball cricket as they made numerous changes to to their squad. They appointed Kusal Perera as new captain. While Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne has been dropped altogether. Senior players like Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal also failed to make the squad for this tour. Thisara Perera has retired from international cricket. As a result, the young players in the squad will have big shoes to fill.

11:19 AM: SL bowling coach Chaminda Vaas took to Twitter to confirm that his 2nd PCR test came negative. He also informed that the match will go ahead as planned.

10: 45 AM: According to BCB officials, the series opener is unlikely to be called off as everyone in the Sri Lanka contingent has had at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, which means that chance of serious illness should be low.

10: 30 AM: Both teams are currently awaiting results of second PCR test, which will determine whether the series will go ahead or not.

10:14 AM: It has been nearly three weeks since Sri Lanka and Bangladesh faced each other in Test series. Both cricketing nations are coming on the back of relatively contrasting fortunes behind them. Bangladesh have failed to register a single international win since their victory over West Indies in January 2021. On the other side Sri Lanka have continuously made changes to to their white-ball sides, have made Kusal Perera as their captain.
