The strict bio-bubble due to Coronavirus concerns over the last 2 years has certainly put an effect on the mental health of the players. In response, the cricket boards have used rotation policies to keep the players fresh ahead of the key tournaments or series.

With the introduction of 2 new teams in the Indian Premier League 2022, the tournament will be played for more than 2 months. Ahead of the season, the likes of Jason Roy and Alex Hales pulled out of the tournament due to the extended stay in bio-bubble.

In the recent IPL Governing Council meeting, the BCCI is said to have debated on taking strict action against the players pulling out of the tournament due to valid reasons, which comes after the complaint by some of the franchises. It certainly has a significant impact on the team’s balance and their chances of securing a victory in the tournament. Here is what IPL Governing Council members said about the players opting out of the tournament.

“The GC has a commitment towards the franchises who are the important stakeholders of the league. They bid for a player after a lot of planning. Their calculations go haywire if a player pulls out, that too for flimsy reasons,” said a GC member as quoted in a Cricbuzz report.

“There will not be a sweeping policy that everyone who has pulled out of the IPL will be prevented for a certain number of years. It will be on a case-by-case basis and some research will be done before action is initiated. What if the reason is genuine,” a source in the know added as per the same report.

Both England players, Jason Roy and Alex Hales had a similar kind of reason for opting out of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. In his statement, Hales had said, “It wouldn’t be fair on the team or myself if I wasn’t able to perform to the level expected of me as a result of ongoing bubble fatigue.”

While Jason Roy shared the note, “With everything going on in the world over the last 3 years, it’s added up and taken a toll on me. I feel it’s only right I spend some quality time with my family.” In the 2020 edition as well, Roy pulled out due to personal reasons, after getting picked by Delhi Capitals.
