Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees has rated the pitch at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as “below average”. Notably, the same pitch was used for the second Test match of the two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka.
After this, the venue has received one demerit point under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process. Mr Srinath said, “The pitch offered a lot of turn on the first day itself and though it improved with every session, in my view, it was not an even contest between bat and ball.”
Notably, Mr. Srinath’s report has been forwarded to the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
India once again dominated Sri Lanka in the two-match Test match with the help of terrific batting and bowling display from the side. India after winning the toss, opted to bat first and initially were struggling in tough batting conditions on this Bengaluru pitch. But, Shreyas Iyer’s 92 (98) lifted Team India’s total and helped them to post 252 runs on board. Sri Lanka in reply got bundled out for just 109 runs as Bumrah stunned their batters by taking a five-wicket haul.
