In a rather strange turn of events, an employee who had decided to take a sick leave to attend the England-Denmark Euro 2020 semifinal match at Wembley, had to lose her job as her boss decided to sack her post watching her celebrate a goal on live television.

Notably, 37-year-old Nina Farooqi, had made an excuse to skip work after her friend offered a last-minute ticket to the epic football encounter of the European Championship. However, her face became popular around the world when a TV camera zoomed in on her and her friend when they were celebrating England’s equalising goal in the fixture.

When catching the train back up to reach office on time, Farooqi said that her boss called her to tell her not to come to work.

I’d do it all over again, says the avid football fan

"They said they’d seen I’d been at the game, and I was honest about why I did it. But I didn’t get any sympathy at all and they said that’s it. That’s their call and the consequence of what I did," she told the Telegraph.

"There is a bit of regret, no one wants to get fired, but then also I would have hated the regret of missing out. I’d do it all over again," she added.

While she had initially thought that it was unlikely that she would be spotted amid a spectator capacity of 60,000, she realised that she was wrong when she checked her phone at half-time.

"It’s mixed emotions: we’re through to the final, I’m still on that high, but I’ve also lost my job," she said.
