The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the squad for Asia Cup 2022. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the side. Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who was rested for West Indies tour and Zimbabwe tour has returned to the squad. Meanwhile, KL Rahul, who hasn't played cricket since IPL 2022, has also been named in the squad.

Youngster Arshdeep Singh, who had a brilliant T20I series against West Indies have been rewarded with another opportunity. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi and pacer Avesh Khan have also been included in the squad.

Team India suffered a big blow ahead of the big tournament as their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out due to back injury. Harshal Patel too has been sidelined due to injury.

BCCI confirmed that Bumrah and Patel were not considered due to their injuries and both the players are currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru.

Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson were the other two names that were missing from the squad.

The selectors also announced Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar as standbys for the tournament.

The Asia Cup is set to begin from August 27.

India and Pakistan will play each other in the Asia Cup on August 28 in Dubai.

India, Pakistan and the team that wins the qualifying tournament form Group A, while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B.
