Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Brisbane Heat have parted ways with all-time top run-scorer Chris Lynn. The club decided to move from the deal and opted to not offer him a new deal ahead of the upcoming edition.
Lynn, who has represented the franchise for almost 11 years, has played more than hundred games in the blues. Notably, this split between the two comes after the end of Lynn’s lucrative deal with the franchise done in 2017 came to an end. At that time in 2017, Lynn reportedly signed the “biggest contract in BBL history” which was worth more than USD 1 million.
Brisbane Heat & Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson quoted, “It’s not a decision that has come easily to the Heat by any means”. “Chris Lynn and his feats have made an indelibe impression on the club, and his efforts over more than a decade can rightly be said to have has an enormously positive effect on cricket”, he added.
It is also to be noted that the explosive six-hitter stepped down from captaincy in the previous edition of the tournament, with Jimmy Pierson taking over the roles. His decision came so as to focus on his batting. However, Lynn ended up scoring just 215 runs at 17.91 in his 12 matches.
Lynn leaves the club after having won the second edition of the tournament (BBL 02) in 2012-13. He also enjoyed two stints as a captain with the franchise, first in 2016-16 (BBL 05) and second came for three consecutive seasons - BBL 08, 09, 10 in between 2018-19 & 2020-21.
Lynn's Brisbane Heat tie ends with him playing 102 matches and scoring 3005 runs with the highest score of 101.
