Despite some mad hitting from Dewald Brevis in the middle, Mumbai Indians failed to open their account in IPL 2022 as they lost their fifth game on the trot. After opting to bowl first, MI conceded too many runs as Punjab scored 198 runs in 20 overs. While batting Mumbai lost wickets at crucial junctures making the chase tougher.
The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan once again failed to get going. While Rohit lost his wicket after looking in good touch, Ishan Kishan could only manage 3 runs. Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis gave some hope with their lusty blows. The young batting duo stitched an 84-run partnership for the third wicket.
At one moment, MI seemed to have the match in their hand with Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard in the middle. However, a mix-up between them cost MI Pollard's wicket. Surya succumbed to the pressure and MI eventually lost the game by 12 runs.
