Star India batter KL Rahul took to Twitter on Saturday (30 July) to share a heartfelt note after being sidelined for the India tour to Zimbabwe. Notably, Sanju Samson had replaced Rahul in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies.

The 30-year-old batter clarified that his sports hernia surgery was successful in June. Further, KL Rahul hoped to be part of the India XI in the Caribbean Tour.

However, the top-order batter tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of his departure to West Indies. After this result, it has certainly pushed back the timeline for Rahul on his return to international cricket. Rahul last featured in the IPL 2022, wherein he led Lucknow Super Giant from the front by scoring 616 runs in 15 innings, laced with two centuries.

The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup will take place from 27 August to 11 September in UAE. It remains to be seen if the selection committee takes a little bit more time to let Rahul attain his full fitness. Along with Asia Cup, the bilateral series against Australia and South Africa will be a preparatory series for the T20 World Cup.
