Post all kinds of speculations and reports that Chris Gayle may not feature in the 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League, it has now been confirmed that the Universe Boss will in fact participate in the T20 tournament, set to happen later this year. Notably, Gayle had opted out of CPL 2020 citing personal reasons but will make a comeback this year after having rejoined his old team- St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. The development was brought to light by the franchise's official Instagram account.

This is not the first instance of Gayle deciding to go back to his former team. The left-handed batsman played four seasons for his home franchise Jamaica Tallawahs before playing for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. However, he returned to the Tallawahs ahead of the 2019 season. While he had a great start in his reunion year, also scoring a century, his form saw a sudden dip and Tallawahs could only manage the last place.

The inclusion of Chris Gayle will be a huge boost for the Patriots, who had only managed just one win in the 10 games in 2020. It is also to be noted that when Gayle was part of their squad in 2017, the franchise produced their best performance and ended up being the runners up. Gayle is the second-highest run getter in the history of the tournament with 2354 runs in 74 innings. Only Lendl Simmons with 2436 runs stands ahead of him.
