The ongoing Test match between South Africa and India was set for an exciting day of action on Wednesday. It was a sunny day in Centurion and fans were waiting for Indian batsmen to extend their lead over the home side. After a couple of wickets in first session, Virat Kohli walked out to bat and looked in scintillating touch.

The right-handed batsman had got himself off to a steady start and just like always, fans started to think that it was D-Day when the Indian captain will finally end his century drought to hit his 71st international ton. He has been waiting for the milestone since 2019 and people started to believe that it will finally come in his last innings of 2021.

Another century-less year for Kohli

But unfortunately for everyone, there was heartbreak awaiting! On the first ball after lunch, Kohli tried to chase a delivery way outside off stump and got an edge as the wait for his century continued. He was dismissed on 18 off 32 and as expected, the social media was on fire.

The netizens started to express their disappointment as Twitter got flooded with posts around Kohli's dismissal. There were memes rolling out, particularly focused on Kohli's temptation to play a cover drive and giving his wicket away, which has been a common trend for the cricketer in last couple of years.

Check out how fans reacted:

While Virat Kohli looked absolutely distraught in the dressing room after his dismissal, he did show glimpses of his class in Centurion and fans would certainly be hoping that 2022 will bring luck to the Indian captain in his pursuit to breaking the deadlock as early as possible, possibly in the next two matches of this series itself.
