Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 7 Highlights

Here's how India fared on Day 7 of CWG 2022.

It was a mixed day for the Indian contingent. Few positives were the performances of the experienced campaigners. The likes of PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikkanth started on a positive note in Badminton, while Dipika Pallikal stormed through the quarter-finals as well. The duo of Manika Batra and Sharath Kamal continued their glorious form as well. Furthermore, two more medals were assured in the game of boxing.

Para Powerlifting

Men’s Lightweight Final: Parmjeet Kumar failed to lift 165 kg in his final attempt and no score and no position on the table was allotted to him.

Women’s Lightweight Final: Manpreet Kaur and Sakina Khatun finished at 4th and 5th, respectively.

Hockey

India’s men’s team beat Wales 4-1 to enter the semi-finals of the tournament. Vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh scored three goals.

Women’s Singles Round of 32: Reeth Tennison defeated Charlotte Bardsley of England 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3.

Women’s Singles Round of 32: Sreeja Akula secured a victory against Karen Lyne of Malaysia 12-10, 12-10, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8

Mixed Doubles Round of 32: Sharath Kamal/Sreeja Akula beat Owen Cathcart/Sophie Earley of Northern Ireland 11-7, 11-8, 11-9.

Mixed Doubles Round of 32: Sathiyan G/Manika Batra beat Mick Crea/Laura Sinon of Seychelles 11-1, 11-3, 11-1

Men’s Singles Classes 3-5 (Group 2)- Raj Aravindan Alagar defeated Dan Bullen of England 11-5, 11-2, 9-11, 11-2

Women’s singles Classes 3-5 – Group 1: Bhavina Patel beats Akanisi Latu of Fiji 11-1, 11-5, 11-1.

Squash Mixed Doubles: Dipika Pallikal/Saurav Ghosal beat the Welsh duo of Emily Whitlock and Peter Creed 11-8, 11-4 to reach the quarters.

Mixed’s Doubles Round of 16: Joshana Chinappa/Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu lose 8-11, 9-11 to Donna Lobban/Cameron Pilley of Australia

Women’s doubles: Sunayna Kuruvilla/Anahat Singh reached pre-quarters by beating Yeheni Kuruppu /Chanithma Sinaly of Sri Lanka 11-9, 11-4.

Men’s Doubles Round of 32 — India’s Velavan Senthilkumar/Abhay Singh defeated Luca Reich/Joe Chapman of the British Virgin Islands 11-3, 11-1

Men’s over 92kg Super Heavyweight: Sagar beat Keddy Evans Agnes of Seychelles 5-0

Women’s lightweight (60kg) quarter-final: Jaismine beat New Zealand’s Troy Garton 4-1.

Men’s 51kg Flyweight- Amit Panghal beats Lennon Mulligan 5-0 of Scotland to enter the semi-finals.

Men’s singles: Mridul Borgohain suffered a 13-21 loss to Ross Davis failed to reach the quarter-finals.

Badminton

Women’s Singles: PV Sindhu beat Maldives’ Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq 21-4, 21-1

Men’s Singles: Kidambi Srikanth outclassed Daniel Wanagaliya of Uganda 21-9, 21-9

Mixed Doubles Round of 32 — Sumeeth Reddy/Ashwini Ponnappa lost 18-21, 16-21 to Callum Hemming/Jessica Pugh of England

Hammer Throw

Manju Bala reached the final by finishing at 11th position with a best throw of 59.68m. In the same event, Sarita Singh ended at 13th position and failed to qualify for the next round.

Round 1 – Heat 2: Hima Das qualified for 200m semis, by finishing first with a timing of 23.42 seconds.
