It's been a roller coaster of a journey in the sporting world at the Commonwealth Games 2022. While some defending champions have managed to successfully hold on to their crown in Birmingham, in the first 8 days of the competition there have been a few youngsters outperforming the veterans and perhaps announcing themselves on the world stage.

In some cases, the difference between a medal and despair has been of millimeters. With such dramatic sporting events happening and with the action getting more intense with every new day in the games, here is a medal and result prediction for Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games.

1. Vinesh Phogat to win a gold medal for India

Vinesh Phogat

This is no big prediction. With all eyes on her and she being the defending champion and after she failed to return home with a medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, only a gold medal will balm the wounds of the medal-starving nation. Vinesh will compete in the Women's 53 kg Freestyle wrestling category and will win gold.

2. India to lose against England in Women's Cricket semifinal

In a prediction that might raise some eyebrows but based purely on the basis of statistical data (which may not always come true), India might have an unsurmountable mountain in front of them in England in the women's cricket semifinals. The two sides have met each other a total of 22 times in the past and while the Three Lions have won 17 of these fixtures, the Indian team has just 5 wins. The Three Lions also happen to be the higher-ranked team than India. Hoping the Indian team proves this prediction wrong.

3. Indian men's hockey team to assure another medal by reaching finals

While the Indian women's cricket team is predicted to lose the game, the stats suggest a comfortable win for India against South Africa in the men's hockey semi-final. This is India's game to lose. They have shown their class in various instances throughout the competition but only need to play their best game and learn from the errors they made against England where they lost the chance to close the match. Unless a blunder from the team, one medal is assured in hockey.

4. Shanieka Ricketts to bag a medal at the Women's Triple jump final

In the women's triple jump final, Shanieka Ricketts is almost certain of getting a medal. While she narrowly missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympics, she called it a "redemption" when she won the silver medal at the World Championships. The Jamaican athlete is among the favourites to clinch the gold.
