Cricket is making its highly-anticipated comeback at Commonwealth Games after featuring for the first time in 1998 Kuala Lumpur edition. It featured 16 teams that played the 50-over format over a span of 11 days. South Africa emerged as the champion of the eventful competition.

The sport is making a remarkable comeback in the Birmingham edition, with women's cricket making its first-ever appearance at the Commonwealth Games. In addition, it will be played in the widely-popular T20 format. The event will have eight teams split into two groups battling out to claim the prestigious gold.

Top-seeded Australia will kick start the proceedings against team India, who is currently at number four in the world rankings. The first match of the sports will be take place between Australia and India on 29th July. Teams have been grouped in two two groups. Australia, India, Pakistan and Barbados are placed in group 1, while second group consists of second-seeded England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa. The top two teams from each group will advance in the semi-final stage.

Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India has recently clinched a clean sweep against Sri Lanka in the 50-over format and will look to continue their winning momentum from the start of Games. Team India will be one of the strong contenders to bag gold in the maiden edition of women's cricket at CWG.
