The New Zealand women’s cricket team on Tuesday, September 2 confirmed the appointment of Craig McMillan in the national setup. The former New Zealander, who earlier joined the side on a part-time contract, was appointed as the White Ferns’ full-time assistant coach, joining Ben Sawyer and Dean Brownlie before the start of the start of the 2025-26 international summer.
The announcement came early on Tuesday with the Women’s Cricket World Cup set to be played in less than a month’s time in India and Sri Lanka. McMillan joins the White Ferns after stepping back from his commentary and other coaching commitments. It is to be noted that Criag McMillan was with the team during their T20 World Cup 2024 win in the UAE.

Speaking after his appointment, McMillan said, "I'm over the moon to be in this role with the White Ferns." "The women's game is going from strength to strength, and I'm excited to continue to work with our talented players and help them reach their goals. The last year has gone so quickly and I've loved every minute of being part of a team that continues to improve, challenge one another, and does special things on the world stage," he further added.
The former New Zealand cricketer also highlighted on the women’s team preparation for the marquee tournament, which will be played from September 30 to November 2. “The team is pumped to get back to India and take on another World Cup,” McMillan added.
The White Ferns, who will begin their Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign against Australia Women on October 1 in Indore, will undergo training camp in Chennai prior to the tournament. However, the New Zealand Women are yet to announce their squad for the marquee tournament.
