Australia captain Pat Cummins’ role will be crucial against England in the Ashes 2025-26 which is scheduled to be played Down Under from November 21. Cummins has been suffering from a lower-back issue and he won’t feature in the upcoming white-ball assignments against New Zealand and Team India. Earlier, he also failed to show up against South Africa in the limited-over series at home. However, his availability will be crucial for the Aussie side in the Ashes as they will be expected to extend England’s Test series win on Aussie soil for four more years.
Recently, Pat Cummins revealed that he is hoping to hold the ball again between four to six weeks ahead of the red-ball series against the English side. "I'd imagine (I'd want to be bowling) at minimum a month out, maybe six weeks. But I've not thought that deeply about it yet. It's still a bit of a wait and see. We've got plenty of time, so we'll map a way back when we get closer. At the moment, for the next few weeks, it's pretty light. Not much running and zero bowling," said Cummins at a Cricket Australia sponsorship announcement on Wednesday as quoted by ICC.
Pat Cummins extraordinary bowling records in the Ashes
Pat Cummins has been exemplary with the ball in the Ashes. Appearing in 19 Tests, he has picked up 91 wickets in 36 innings. In 2021-22, when England toured Australia and faced a 0-4 defeat, Cummins put up an extraordinary show with the ball. Bagging 21 wickets in eight innings of four matches, he ended up as the most successful bowler in the series.
His role will be vital for the Aussie side as he, along with veteran pacers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, possesses the potential to give a tough time to the English side. Against England , he is only nine scalps away to complete his 100 wickets. Australia supporters will want their skipper to pull off this milestone in the upcoming Test extravaganza.
