Indian international Rinku Singh will rejoin the squad in Kolkata after completing the last rites of his father in Aligarh. India will face off against the West Indies in a must win game in Kolkata come Sunday and that is where Rinku will link up with his teammates. The cricketer’s decision to join the team despite facing a huge personal loss showcases his dedication towards his nation.
Rinku Singh’s father, Khanchand Singh, took his last breath at the Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. He was suffering from fourth-stage liver cancer. After the game against South Africa, Rinku flew back home when his father’s condition got serious and returned to the team setup before India’s game against Zimbabwe in Chennai.
Rinku’s father passed away the next morning and then he took a flight to Delhi before taking a road to Aligarh. "He flew to Delhi and travelled to Aligarh via road to attend the last rites of his father," A lot of people were present at the crematorium. Rinku along with his four brothers was there as they all performed the last rites," a source told the New Indian Express.
After completing all the rituals and his father’s last rites, Rinku Singh will join the team in Kolkata ahead of the final Super 8 clash against West Indies. "Yes he came here for the father's last rites. He has left to join the team in Kolkata," said Sonu, one of Rinku’s siblings as per the New Indian Express.
It is a sad day for Indian cricket and its fans. Former players and experts have sent their condolences to Rinku Singh for his huge loss. Virat Kohli also took to his X (formerly twitter) handle and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti. 🙏 @rinkusingh235,”
