In pursuit of the big target of 331 runs against India in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2025, star Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry retired hurt due to an apparent hamstring issue at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The veteran was batting on 32* off 40 with four fours to her name when she decided to walk off the field after talking to her captain Alyssa Healy and the team physio in the middle after letting the umpire know about her decision.

The fitness issue to Ellyse Perry happened on the last ball of the 24th over when she took off for a run after hitting the fuller length delivery from left-arm spinner Shree Charani towards the deep cover fielder. She seemingly felt something in her left leg before the Australian physio arrived in the middle to discuss it with her and make the call to not continue batting in the middle.

Shortly after, India picked up a couple of key wickets of Beth Mooney and Annabel Sutherland cheaply to make a comeback into the contest with Australia reaching 174/3 in 28 overs. But still, the Australians are in relative control of the situation with a long batting lineup and most importantly their captain Alyssa Healy unbeaten at the crease in the 90s, scoring far better than run-a-ball.

Below are the playing XIs of India and Australia for their ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025:
