India veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has been going through one of the toughest phases of his international career. The speedster couldn’t make it to India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, set to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28, 2025. Jasprit Bumrah will be making a comeback in India’s T20I squad after 14 months but Shami, who was part of India’s victorious side against England in the five-match T20 International (T20I) series in January-February, was ignored due to his performance and fitness issues. In the series against the English side, he returned to international cricket after 14 months. Discussing his performance, the veteran looked decent as he took three wickets in two matches at an economy of 9.09.

However, following that series, his performance plummeted as he struggled to be among the wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). A day after facing the Asia Cup 2025 snub, Shami took to his Instagram handle and dropped a video in which he can be seen bowling leg spin against a batter in the nets. Later, in the clip, Shami also troubles the batter with the former’s fierce pace bowling.

Mohammed Shami’s recent performance

Mohmmed Shami last featured in competitive cricket in IPL 2025. Donning SRH’s jersey for the first time, he looked completely out of rhythm. Appearing in nine matches for IPL 2016 champions, the speedster got six wickets at a horrendous economy of 11.23.

Before getting ignored for Asia Cup 2025, Shami also failed to get a spot in India’s Test squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 held in England June 20 to August 4. Shami will next feature for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025 to be held from August 28 to September 15.
