Usually speaking, and you can disagree freely, should you wish, goes on something like this. It’s not the Indian players or the Indian cricketers so to speak who happen to star or feature in the franchise based tournaments around the world; leagues that further the reach and appeal of T20 cricket. It’s actually the other way around. It’s talents from different corners and continents of the world who come to feature or star in the most famous franchise based league team event that there is, a cornerstone of sorts that the Indian Premier League is! Wouldn’t you agree? And truth be told, besides the world famous IPL, the only other league in which we have seen the Indian Cricketers participate is the Champion’s League T20, which too, if you think about it is now a thing of the past.
Without much doubt, while there is hardly any competition that the renowned Indian Premier League faces in terms of global and elite participation on the part of the other leagues as also racking up the gobsmacking numbers (that contribute to amazing TRP), there’s also an avid fact that owing to the humongous popularity of T20 cricket, newer outfits are emerging in other parts of the world.
Among them is a newly formed European T20 Premier League. A brand new edition to the most captivating format that the modern day competitive cricket and in that part of the world that recounts familiar and exciting adjectives such as picturesque.
Here’s the most interesting part It’s come to common knowledge that the league which is newly formed and has team owners in the form of giants of the game such as Steve Waugh, Jonty Rhodes, Faf du Plessis and even the great Rahul Dravid, now wants to have none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni in it.
This, it ought to be mentioned, is the desire of a certain Abhishek Bachchan, famous film actor who happens to be the co owner of the very league itself: i.e., the European T20 Premier League.
That being said, it’s a call to action from Jr Bachchan’s side
To have an icon and a timeless name in the sport in the form of the great Mahendra Singh Dhoni participate in the European T20 league is going to be, should it happen for real, quite transcendental and unique for the brand new league.
What Dhoni still brings
While on the one hand the involvement of huge stars like Waugh and Rhodes lends the league a touch of credibility and fame, the presence of none other than Dravid tends to add an important fragment of authenticity, such a vital dynamic to a newly formed league like the European T20 League.
That being said, Dhoni, should the entire prospect and appeal of the league excite him, will bring a fabric of credibility and excitement like few other players can.
Even at this point of time, despite having retired from international cricket since many years, he’s signed up with the CSK and it’s only a sad bout with an ill timed injury that’s keeping him away from solid active action.
Else, his six hitting abilities and talent are still second to none and should he bring that in addition to the experience that he has, we could be seeing a stalwart adding his name to the European T20 League and that’ll be a brilliant piece of news for just about everybody.
