Everything you need to know about Bangladesh’s newest bowling sensation
From Chapai Nawabganj to Pace Promise
Born on October 2, 2002, in Chapai Nawabganj, Rana did not have a reputation of being a fast bowler. He became interested in playing cricket professionally only after completing his education. At the age of 18, he enrolled in a cricket academy located in Rajshahi. The boy’s height and pace immediately attracted attention from the coaches. From there, his growth was steady but quick.

Debut That Turned Heads Instantly
He debuted in first class cricket in the month of October 2021 representing Rajshahi Division. He made an immediate impact with his bowling pace. The next year he achieved his first five wickets. He played his T20 debut match in the Bangladesh Premier League in early 2023. Soon after that he started playing in the list A cricket as well. He then made his debut in Test Cricket against Sri Lanka in March 2024. He took three wickets on the opening day, announcing himself immediately.

Fast-Track Rise Without the Usual Route
However, Nahid’s case is an exception. He started his career late but gained prominence quickly. Having never played for Under-19 teams, Nahid focused on domestic cricket. In his second year of first-class cricket, Nahid took 41 wickets. Such figures made the selectors take note of his talents. Consequently, he was soon playing Test cricket for Bangladesh. His story highlights how performance can outweigh structured pathways.
Rapid Climb Across Formats and Leagues
The progression of Nahid’s professional life has been quite dramatic. From a local hero to playing international cricket, it took him only two years. He made his ODI debut in late 2024. Next year was 2025, when he had the chance to play T20Is. His pace often exceeded 140 km/h. Later on, he enhanced his ability to maintain consistency. His 2026 performances show a more complete bowler.
Breaking Speed Barriers and Match Records
One of those special moments occurred when he faced Pakistan. He bowled with a pace of 152 kilometers per hour, which was the fastest pace ever achieved by a Bangladeshi bowler. It was also an instance where he took important wickets while defending a low score. His latest achievement of taking five wickets for 32 runs against New Zealand made him one of the best performers against the opposition in Bangladesh's ODIs. He also claimed a five-wicket haul earlier against Pakistan. These performances underline his impact in big matches.
Numbers That Show a Bowler on the Rise
His statistics indicate consistency in improvement. In Tests, he boasts 27 wickets in 10 matches, while his record includes 5 for 61. In ODIs, he has managed 14+ wickets with a strong economy rate below 31. In the T20 format, he has proven to be effective by getting regular wickets, although with a high economy rate. First class cricket still appears to be his strongest platform, as he has amassed over 100 wickets. His contributions batting-wise have been meager, as expected from a professional bowler.
To conclude, though debates might include more promising young players across the world, Nahid Rana's case deserves special attention because of the rapid rise and effectiveness. He can be considered as one of the key factors contributing to change in bowling style in Bangladesh team. The case shows that even if you start late, you can still make an impact in early years.
