Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angriksh Raghuvanshi has been handed a fine by the IPL for breaching Level 1 Code of Conduct. The batter has been imposed a 20% fine on his match fee as well as has been handed 1 demerit point for breaching the code of conduct. The ruling came after the batter’s aggressive outburst as he struck the boundary cushion in frustration after walking back.

During the clash against the Lucknow Super Giants, Raghuvanshi was dismissed in a dramatic fashion, adjudged out for obstructing the field. With this, he became the only fourth player in the history of the tournament to be dismissed in this manner. The 21-year-old expressed his displeasure with an on-field outburst and engaged in a heated chat with one of the umpires. Not only this, but he was also seen throwing away his helmet in anger.

The league released a media advisory and announced, “Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match’. “ … Raghuvanshi struck the boundary cushion with his bat in an aggressive manner and subsequently threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner. Raghuvanshi admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” it added.

How did drama unfold during LSG vs KKR?

During the clash between LSG and KKR, Raghuvanshi nudged the ball delivered by Prince Yadav towards mid-on and ran for a single. Cameron Green, who was on the other end, sent him back. However, when the throw came towards the striker’s end, Raghuvanshi dived to make his ground, but the throw ended up hitting him. Mohammed Shami appealed for obstructing the field, and the decision was referred to the third umpire.

After replays, the third umpire deemed that the batter deliberately came in the way of the ball and the 21-year-old was given out. Before walking back, Raghuvanshi argued with the on-field umpires and ended up smashing the boundary cushion with his bat before making his way to the dressing room. The youngster scored nine runs off eight balls with one boundary. Though the Knight Riders managed to win the game in the Super Over.
