Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the age of 92. Her death marks the end of an era for Indian cinema, where her career spanned eight decades and more than 12,500 songs. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on the evening of Saturday, April 11, after her health took a sudden turn. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, shared that the singer was experiencing extreme exhaustion and a chest infection.

During her hospitalisation, she suffered a cardiac arrest and respiratory complications. Dr. Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital confirmed she passed away due to multi-organ failure following these complications.

Her body was brought back to her residence, Casa Grande in Lower Parel, at approximately 5:00 PM on Sunday. Fans and well-wishers can pay their final respects at her residence starting at 11:00 AM on Monday.The funeral will take place with full state honours at Shivaji Park, Dadar, on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 4:00 PM.

Tributes have poured in from across the globe, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing deep sadness and describing her voice as one that "enriched our cultural heritage".
