Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel got retired hurt during the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday. Both sides came against each other in a last-over thriller at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 18. The hosts, who were playing their 100th game at the venue, aimed to continue their winning streak, but unfortunately ended up suffering their first loss in three games.
During the game, DC skipper Axar Patel retired hurt while batting for the side. RCB were asked to put the score on the board first, and after a failed show by the batting squad, but Phil Salt, the defending champions, managed to come up with an average score of 175 at the loss of eight wickets. In return, the visitors got off to a disastrous start and lost their opener Pathum Nissanka at one run. However, another opener, KL Rahul played a key knock of 57 runs, while Tristan Stubbs remained undefeated at 60.
Patel, who came in to bat at six, suffered a cramp and received first-aid by the team physio. However, he decided to walk back to the hut, while David Miller replaced him at the crease. While Patel was walking back, RCB bowler Krunal Pandya came in and assisted Patel in the same. The moment that redefined sportsmanship quickly went viral on social media, where fans appreciated the RCB star for the same and lauded the bond both players share.

David Miller helps DC crawl back and secure six wicket win
David Miller, who replaced Patel on the field, helped the guests make their way back into the game and record a six wicket win over the reigning champions. Just when things had almost gotten out of hand, Miller smashed two back-to-back sixes, followed by a four off Romario Shepherd delivery to help DC bounce back from two consecutive losses.
RCB skipper Rajat Patidar reflected on the loss, and said, That was very close, but I feel that we were 15-20 runs short. The way we started initially, especially Virat bhai and Salt, they have given a good start, but from there, after 12-13 overs, we lost wickets in a couple of overs and that put us on the backseat.” However, Patidar looked optimistic and said that they would improve as a team and rectify the errors.
“I was just discussing with the bowlers that be clear whatever you do. It's a long tournament, but I think we will go back and introspect where we put the errors and we'll rectify them,” he added.
In their upcoming game, RCB will be up against GT on Friday, April 24.
