The early months of 2027 will bring one of the most exciting, action-packed stretches in cricket history. Australian cricketers will play a grueling series in India before flying home for a massive celebration of the sport. Australia will travel to India to play a five-match Test series, known as Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Winning a Test series on Indian soil is known as the "final frontier" for many great Australian players. The 2027 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will feature five highly anticipated Test matches across India, beginning with the first Test from January 21 to January 25 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The action then moves to Chennai for the second Test at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium from January 29 to February 2. After a brief break, the teams will square off in the third Test from February 11 to February 15 at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. The battle will continue shortly after with the fourth Test taking place between February 19 and February 23 at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi.
Finally, the epic series wraps up with the fifth and final Test from February 27 to March 3 at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Just eight days after the final ball is bowled in India, Australia will host England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This special match will run from March 11 to March 15, 2027. The match celebrates the very first official Test match played between Australia and England at the MCG in March 1877. This will be the first-ever men's day-night pink-ball Test played at the MCG. Playing under lights will help boost television ratings across the globe and pack the stadium.

IPL 2027 eyes March 15 start amid packed cricket calendar
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reorganising the IPL 2027 window to run from March 10 to May 15, 2027, sparking a massive scheduling conflict for international cricket. This early start is a big change from previous years. It aims to save players and fans from the brutal late-May weather. Late May in India brings intense heat waves. This makes playing and watching games very difficult. Moving the final to mid-May helps protect everyone's health. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia noted that rain often disrupts matches in late May. An earlier finish protects vital playoff and final matches from being washed out. Fans expecting a longer tournament will have to wait. The BCCI confirmed that IPL 2027 will not expand to a 94-match format.
It will stick to its current 74-match schedule. Devajit Saikia explained to PTI that stretching the window any further would hurt international bilateral series. The board wants to respect the calendars of other top cricket boards. This new March 10 start creates an historic logistical logjam for elite players. Indian players will wrap up a grueling five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series on March 3, 2027. They will have exactly one week to rest before diving straight into the intense T20 league. The historic 150th Anniversary Test match will take place at the MCG from March 11 to March 15, 2027. Because this aligns exactly with the opening week of the IPL, big-name English and Australian stars will miss the start of the tournament.
