The Delhi Capitals (DC) have officially mourned the tragic loss of two young fans, Abhav Bhatia (14) and Yagya Bhatia (20), who were killed in a hit-and-run accident late Monday night, April 27, 2026. The franchise expressed its heartbreak on social media, identifying the cousins as members of the "DC Toli," the team's official fan group. Both cousins were the only children of their respective parents and shared a profound bond through cricket.
Yagya Bhatia (20) was a B.Sc student who was seriously pursuing a professional cricket career. He had previously trained under Rajkumar Sharma (Virat Kohli's childhood coach) and was talented enough to serve as a net bowler for IPL professionals. Abhav Bhatia (14) was a Class 10 student at Hansraj School who looked up to his elder cousin and participated in local matches alongside him. He was set to celebrate his 15th birthday just three days after the accident occurred. The incident occurred on April 27, 2026, in one of Delhiโs most high-security zones, near the Election Commission of India and the Delhi Police Headquarters.

What led to this accident?
The tragic accident on April 27, 2026, was primarily a hit-and-run collision involving a speeding commercial vehicle and the victims' motorcycle. According to police investigations and CCTV footage, several factors led to the fatal incident. An 18-second CCTV clip shows a goods carrier (truck) loaded with debris making a sharp left turn from Ashoka Road onto Mahadev Road. The truck rammed into the motorcycle, which was riding parallel to it on the left side.Witnesses and family friends reported the truck was speeding and failed to stop or check on the victims after the collision. The force of the crash threw both Yagya and Abhav onto the road, where the truck's wheels reportedly ran over them.
A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and causing death by negligence. While the truck has been seized and its owner questioned, the driver remains at large, and police are conducting raids to arrest him.
